Expert Opinion about Gerard McMann

Author profile

Two Canadian regulators have warned about Gerard McMann. We consider depositing money with this broker high risk. The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) says the broker is not registered to trade securities there. The British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC) says the firm is not registered with it and advises caution before making a deposit.

A copy of the broker’s homepage saved by Wayback Machine on 26 March 2026 lists the same client-protection amounts as Interactive Brokers. Matching figures do not prove that clients receive the advertised cover.

The same homepage presents a TradingView logo as media coverage of this broker. Clicking it opens a press release about Winston Pierce Invest, a different company.

Gerard McMann markets a trading platform at gerardmcmann.com. Its advertising mentions stocks, cryptocurrencies, AI tools and protection for client funds. We checked regulator records, including the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) database, saved copies of the company’s website and publications behind those claims.

Warnings from regulators in Ontario and British Columbia

Regulators in two Canadian provinces have warned about Gerard McMann. The OSC says the broker is not registered to trade securities there. The BCSC says the firm is not registered with it and advises caution before making a deposit.

When each warning appeared
14 July 2026 The OSC issues its warning about the company.
20 July 2026 The CSA database lists the same Ontario warning.
27 July 2026 The BCSC publishes its separate warning about the company.

The CSA entry republishes the Ontario warning; it is not an additional warning. The CSA and BCSC records are linked beside the warning badge above.

Advertised trading services

The company’s 26 March 2026 press release advertises the following features:

Features claimed in the company-issued announcement
Markets Stocks, cryptocurrencies and futures.
Platforms Desktop, browser and mobile access.
Trading tools AI-assisted trading, more than 90 order types, portfolio analysis and real-time trade confirmations.
Research and accounts More than 200 research providers and RSP/IRA retirement-account options.

These claims come from a PR Newswire release issued by the broker. They do not establish authorisation to offer the advertised services in Ontario or British Columbia.

Website history and availability

The Verisign domain record, checked on 17 October 2026, gives a registration date of 5 February 2020. That date tells us when the web address was registered, not when this broker started trading.

The Wayback Machine stores earlier versions of webpages. Its copy of this website saved on 17 July 2025 shows a consulting blog with articles about workplace safety, business coaching and databases. A later version, dated 26 March 2026, advertises trading services on the same domain. The two saved pages show that the site’s content changed; they do not identify who owned it or when the brokerage started operating.

On 17 October 2026, the registry showed clientHold, and the website did not open during our check. ICANN explains that this status stops the domain from resolving to a website. The record does not give the reason for the hold or say when it might be lifted.

Protection claims match Interactive Brokers’ figures

The copy of the broker’s homepage saved on 26 March 2026 claims SIPC protection of $500,000, including $250,000 for cash. It also describes additional cover through Lloyd’s underwriters: $30 million per account, a $900,000 cash limit and a $150 million total policy limit.

The same amounts appear on Interactive Brokers LLC’s client-protection page, along with a similar example of how account balances are grouped. Repeating these figures does not establish that clients receive the advertised cover.

SIPC protection concerns missing customer assets when a member brokerage fails. It does not repay ordinary trading losses. The relevant question is which firm holds the client’s assets and whether the protection applies to that firm.

The footer of that saved page says registration certificates and licences are available on request. It also warns that losses from leveraged trading can exceed the initial deposit — in other words, a client could lose more than they put in.

Press releases and customer reviews

PR Newswire: a company-issued announcement

The 26 March 2026 release names the broker as the news provider and claims 98% customer satisfaction based on internal surveys. This is a promotional announcement, not an independent test of the trading service.

Yahoo Finance: a paid press release

The 13 April 2026 article carries a paid-press-release label and comes from GlobeNewswire. It promotes AI trading and account protection. The Yahoo Finance logo does not turn this paid announcement into an editorial recommendation.

Yahoo Finance labels the article a paid press release above its headline and publication date
Yahoo Finance / GlobeNewswire, 13 April 2026. The paid-release label appears above the article. Captured 17 October 2026.

Both announcements appeared before the July regulatory warnings. Their publication dates matter: the later warnings change the information available to someone considering an account today.

Trustpilot: praise for tools and complaints about calls

On the Trustpilot profile, Sydnie’s 23 April review describes repeated sales calls. The company’s 14 May reply says it will investigate. In a post dated 12 May, Oddbjorn Kleveland praises the charting tools and asks for more customisation.

Some negative posts also advertise money-recovery services. A complaint containing an advert is not evidence that the advertised service can recover funds.

If you have already sent money

If you cannot access your account or withdraw money, save payment receipts, transaction references, withdrawal requests and messages. Contact the bank or payment provider that handled the transfer promptly and ask what options are available for that transfer. A refund is not guaranteed.

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre explains how to preserve evidence and report suspected fraud. Do not send more money just because someone promises to “unlock” a withdrawal or recover your funds. You do not need to feel embarrassed about asking for help.

Frequently asked questions

Is Gerard McMann registered to trade securities in Ontario?

The OSC warning dated 14 July 2026 says the company is not registered to trade securities in Ontario. The BCSC published a separate warning on 27 July, saying it is not registered with that commission either.

Was gerardmcmann.com working at the latest check?

The website did not open during our 17 October 2026 check. Its domain record showed clientHold, a status that stops the web address from resolving. The record did not explain the cause or say whether the hold would be permanent.

Does the 2020 domain registration show years of brokerage experience?

No. A Wayback Machine copy saved on 17 July 2025 shows a consulting blog; the version from 26 March 2026 displays a trading website. The domain registration date does not tell us when the brokerage started operating.

Does the similar protection text show a connection to Interactive Brokers?

No. Using the same protection figures does not prove a partnership or show that this broker's clients have the advertised cover.

Are the PR Newswire and Yahoo Finance articles independent reviews?

No. PR Newswire identifies the company as the source of its March release. Yahoo Finance labels its April article a paid press release distributed through GlobeNewswire.
